Mags Sexton is the headteacher at Westcourt Primary School, an academy trust school based in Gravesend, Kent.
Career Overview
Mags became acting head at Westcourt in September 2017, seven months after the school was incorporated into the Primary First Trust. Her appointment coincided with a need for the school to enhance the quality of education provision, which Mags has successfully set about doing during her headship.
With Key Stage 2 results not correlating with the ability of the school’s pupils, Mags and her team improved the then combined pass rate of 43 per cent by overhauling the English curriculum to put a new emphasis on reading, which had a fast impact on the use of language among pupils.
This new teaching style also saw reading more actively encouraged in school and at home to further the vocabulary of pupils.
