The Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) has announced the appointment of Jason Davenport as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Succeeding Ken Pullar, who is retiring after seven years of service to the Institute, Davenport (pictured) brings over 25 years of experience in the industry, having spent the majority of his career in the business process outsourcing industry.

During his time at CMG (now CGI), he managed the northern HR services division. He has also worked globally for NGA Human Resources, leading payroll, pensions, and HR outsourced services for the domestic and international markets.

Davenport was the Chief Operating Officer for Capita HRS Division, delivering to a variety of both public and private sector organisations. In 2017, he founded the payroll consultancy firm Calendar Consulting Ltd, which provides support to clients with their payroll performance and strategy.

Davenport's leadership experience extends beyond the payroll industry. He is a mentor for the UK Government-led initiative "Be The Business," which aims to drive productivity growth within the SME market. He also held the position of Chair of the CIPP Board of Directors between 2019-2021 and served as a non-executive director with the Institute for several years.

Davenport will assume his new role as CEO from July 2023. With his extensive experience in the industry and proven leadership skills, the CIPP is confident that he will help drive the Institute's growth and success in the years to come.

Speaking about his appointment, Davenport said, ‘The CIPP has provided training to thousands of payroll professionals. With 9,500 individuals benefitting from CIPPs services across the country, working both independently as service providers and within businesses, our aim is to provide support and education to the payroll, pensions and reward industries.

‘With the government target of achieving a trend growth rate of 2.5 per cent, it’s crucial that we welcome more professionals to the industry, and play a key part in the recovery of the British economy.

‘As I have since my first appointment at the CIPP, I’ll continue to champion the incredible work of our team and members, and I look forward to sharing their successes when I start my new role on 3 July 2023.’

What is the CIPP?

The Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals is an organisation dedicated to advancing the payroll profession and promoting excellence in payroll management. It is the only chartered professional body in the UK for payroll professionals and is the authoritative voice on payroll legislation and practice.

Founded in 1980, the CIPP has over 10,000 members across the UK, including payroll managers, administrators, and consultants. The organization offers a range of professional qualifications, including the Foundation Degree in Payroll Management, which is recognised by the UK government.

In addition to providing professional development opportunities, the CIPP also plays an important role in shaping payroll legislation and policy. The organization works closely with government departments, such as HMRC, to provide expert guidance on changes to payroll legislation and to represent the interests of payroll professionals.

The CIPP also offers a range of resources to its members, including online forums, technical help desk support, and a regular magazine, the Payroll Professional. The organisation also hosts a range of events and webinars, providing members with opportunities to network, share best practice, and stay up-to-date with the latest developments in payroll practice.

Membership of the CIPP is open to anyone with an interest in payroll, including individuals, businesses, and organisations. Membership benefits include access to professional development opportunities, technical support, and networking events. The organisation also offers a range of corporate membership options, providing businesses with access to tailored support and resources.
