Stephen Hurst is the managing director of Mercanta The Coffee Hunters, suppliers of best of harvest unroasted, raw coffee beans to specialty, artisan and craft coffee roasting companies all over the world. 

Mercanta import and distribute specialty coffee beans via a global network of 5 (soon to be 6) offices / coffee labs on 3 Continents. Also having served on the board of directors of the Alliance for Coffee Excellence, the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe, and founder of London School of Coffee, a London based training and consultancy business in the field of specialty coffee training and education

Career Overview

Before launching his own business, Hurst served as Executive Director of Coffee Trading at J Aron & Co (UK) / Goldman Sachs from 1985-1996.

Stephen Hurst founded Mercanta The Coffee Hunters in 1996 in a small office in Sunbury on Thames. Mercanta now sources a dazzling variety of outstanding specialty grade green, raw coffee beans from 20 producing countries, distributing via a network of 6 offices / coffee labs and 9 warehouses on three Continents.

Mercanta are proud to offer impartial and professional advice and efficient deliveries to more than 40 countries worldwide.

In July 2020, Stephen Hurst appeared on a Leaders Council of Great Britain & Northern Ireland podcast, discussing the importance of leadership and the impact it has had on her career to date.
