Risley Avenue Primary School

Linda Sarr is the headteacher at Risley Avenue Primary School, a three-form entry primary school in north London serving a widely diverse community.

Career Overview

In her headship, Linda regularly grapples with the challenges of catering for a school community where almost 70 per cent speak English as a second language and many pupils come from disadvantaged backgrounds. However, Linda strives to maintain high expectations for pupils to create an aspirational environment.

This approach of encouraging pupils to aim high has paid dividends, with the school judged to be “good” by Ofsted in its previous inspection in June 2017.

Linda also oversees the school’s delivery of the Haringey Education Partnership humanities curriculum, which focuses on key knowledge, discipline, and raising awareness of climate change, multiculturalism, diversity, anti-racism and social justice.

Linda has also engaged the school in several Erasmus projects, which notably focus on the importance of leadership in the challenging urban context.
