Career Overview

Julian Russell’s role at HQ Theatres and Hospitality began in late 2014, as he was appointed to assess the company and respond to what he discovered. Russell changed systems and processes and re-structured where required to enhance commercial performance, providing a strategic vision going forward as well as day-to-day management and co-ordination of its team of employees. The Covid-19 pandemic of 2020 has left the organisation needing to pivot as it fights to survive.

Since 2018, Russell has also been a non-executive director at Icebox, London’s original specialist ice supplier.

Russell has accumulated vast experience in senior roles earlier in his career, having worked as an operations manager at Avenance UK with a blue chip client portfolio, and a senior operations manager with Spotless, where he directed operations for Australia’s leading integrated food service solutions provider.

Between 2005 and 2014, prior to joining HQ, Russell was the managing partner at Out of the Blue Restaurants in London, a company which he founded and operated himself.

In October 2020, Russell appeared on a Leaders Council of Great Britain & Northern Ireland podcast, discussing the importance of leadership and the impact it has had on his career to date.
