The Loddon School

Dr Gill Barrett is principal at The Loddon School. Based in Hampshire, it is a non-maintained residential special school for pupils aged eight to 19 with highly complex needs such as autism, severe learning difficulties, verbal communication issues and challenging behaviours.

Career Overview

Gill is an experienced school principal with a demonstrated history of working in the primary & secondary education industry. Her first deputy headship [2004 to 2007] saw her help turn around the troubled Headlands School, before she spent five years as associate principal of Swindon Academy.

Between 2012 and 2015, Gill headed up and led the national teacher training programme United Learning, which she herself started. In the September of 2015, she took up her current position at The Loddon School.

Education

Gill completed two degrees during the 1980s, completing a BA in Geography at the University of Kent and then a Postgraduate Certificate in Education at the University of Leicester.

Since the turn of the century, Gill has completed a Master’s in Special Education and Teaching at the University of Birmingham, and a PhD in Philosophy focused on Secondary Education and Teaching at the University of Bath, thus earning her doctorate.
