Caryn Nicolson is the CEO of Frontline Fife, a Scottish homelessness charity which works to end homelessness by tackling the underlying causes and symptoms of poverty through early intervention and prevention.
Career Overview
Caryn began her career working in the health sector in a health improvement managerial role with the Greater Glasgow Health Board and the Ayrshire and Arran Health Board. After working in health for ten years, she moved into the automotive industry in 2002 with Mercedes Benz/Smart and Jaguar, where she worked in business development and sales.
After leaving Jaguar in 2006, Caryn worked with SCDI for two years before moving back into the health industry with The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Glasgow, where she headed up membership services.
The education sector was the next destination for Caryn in 2011, as she began to head up business development for Stevenson College Edinburgh and later Edinburgh College. In late 2013, Caryn left her role to start offering business advice on a freelance basis. She did this for seven months before taking up her role with Frontline Fife in 2014.
Under Caryn’s leadership, Frontline Fife has had a significant impact in an area which is afflicted with homelessness. In 2019, the charity prevented 154 people, through court representation, from losing their home, supported 210 to build their resilience and gain skills to sustain their tenancy and provided 173 with a safer place to stay.
Frontline Fife has also begun working in partnership with other providers and the Fife Council local authority to help tackle inequalities under the Scottish government’s high-level action plan, Ending Homelessness Together, and the council’s Rapid Rehousing Transition plan.
