Vitalograph influential in aquatic exercise study on child neuromuscular disorders

Vitalograph’s COPD-6 was successfully used in a recent study, which sought to assess the respiratory changes and functional outcomes in children with neuromuscular disorders attending an aquatic therapy program.

Neuromuscular disorders [NMD] culminate in the progressive loss of motor and respiratory functions and a decline in daily activities and participation.

The Vitalograph COPD-6 was used in the study - conducted at the Aquatic Therapy Unit based at the San José Institute Foundation in Madrid, Spain - to measure the volume of exhaled air by means of FEV1/FEV6 ratio.

The report from the study reads: “An aquatic exercise program in children with NMD appears to promote short-term increases in certain clinically relevant concepts, such as PCF inspiratory volume and ventilatory pressures, described as indicators of health status and progression in these pathologies.”

Vitalograph are the longest-established manufacturer of respiratory diagnostic medical devices in the world, serving global markets from their headquarters in the UK with operations in Ireland, Germany, Japan, the United States and Hong Kong.
