US Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden has secured three endorsements from former candidacy rivals as voters in 14 states prepare to select their preferred Democratic candidate ahead of the presidential election in November.

Former candidates Amy Klobuchar, Pete Buttigieg and Beto O’Rourke all endorsed Biden after suspending their campaigns.

Bernie Sanders remains the frontrunner to be nominated as Democratic candidate.

Five remain in the race for the Democratic candidacy, the others being Elizabeth Warren, Michael Bloomberg and Tulsi Gabbard.

Speaking alongside Biden in Dallas, Texas, Minnesota senator Klobuchar, who quit her campaign on Monday, said : “If we spend the next four months dividing our party and going at each other, we will spend the next four year watching Donald Trump tear apart our country.”

Former Indiana mayor Buttigieg, who suspended his campaign over the weekend, said: “I'm looking for a leader, I'm looking for a president, who will draw out what's best in each of us", referring to Biden.

The first four primary contests have seen Sanders secure 60 delegates, Biden 54 and Warren eight.

The remaining candidates have the opportunity to secure any number of a further 1,344 delegates on Tuesday from the 14 states voting.
