Schedule of debates in the House of Commons this week

The House of Commons will be discussing several important bills this week, including the Strikes (Minimum Service Level) Bill & the Online Safety Bill. 

Monday, January 16th with the Strikes (Minimum Service Level) Bill. This bill, which applies to England, Wales, and Scotland, gives the government the power to require public services including rail, ambulances, and fire services to maintain minimum service levels during strike action.

On Tuesday, January 17th, the Commons will be discussing the Markets and Market Traders (Review of Support) Bill. This bill requires the government to undertake a review of the support available to markets and market traders, and of the options for improving that support.

Additionally, the Online Safety Bill will be under report stage and 3rd reading, which puts a duty of care on companies hosting user-generated content (e.g. social media sites) and search engines to remove illegal content or content that's harmful to children.

Wednesday, January 18th will see a discussion of the Fertility Treatment (Transparency) Bill, which requires IVF providers to publish information annually about the number of NHS-funded IVF cycles they carry out. Additionally, the Retained EU Law (Revocation and Reform) Bill will be under report stage and 3rd reading which revokes all EU laws that still apply in the UK on 31 December 2023 unless MPs codify them into EU law.

Thursday, January 19th there are no votes scheduled. On Friday, January 20th, there will be several private members' bills presented including the Neonatal Care (Leave and Pay) Bill, Employment (Allocation of Tips) Bill, Pensions Dashboards (Prohibition of Indemnification) Bill, Shark Fins Bill, Online Sale of Goods (Safety) Bill, Hereditary Titles (Female Succession) Bill, Workers (Rights and Definition) Bill, Full Employment Bill, Asylum Seekers (Accommodation Eviction Procedures) Bill, and Disability Benefit Assessments (Recording) Bill.

These bills cover a wide range of topics including parental leave for premature and sick babies, the allocation of tips and gratuities to employees, the prohibition of indemnification for pension scheme trustees and managers, the import and export of shark fins, regulations for the sale of goods online, female succession of hereditary titles, the definition of employment, full employment policy, eviction procedures for asylum seeker accommodation, and recording of disability benefit assessments.
