Ng Homes receives National Lottery funding for North Glasgow project

Ng Homes has received funding from The National Lottery Fund amounting to more than £275,000, which will go towards its flagship project ‘Supporting, Connecting and Building Resilience in the North Glasgow Community’.

The project aims to consolidate and build on the provision of good quality pre-loved furniture and furnishings to people who find themselves in hardship or are moving into housing having previously been homeless. It has been key in helping those in need turn their houses into homes and provide them with a positive start to life in the community.

Ng Homes chair, John Thorburn, said: "We are delighted to be awarded funding from The National Lottery Fund to support the work of key staff members and the excellent furniture project in North Glasgow. The project has been a real success and it has already helped so many people who have found themselves in hardship.

"There is some brilliant work happening across community so it is excellent news that the funding will support three core staff members and a large community partnership approach to carry out meaningful work. The community partnership will be especially important in delivering services to make a positive impact in the North Glasgow community."

The funding will also ensure that the project can provide a raft of interventions and activities around issues such as financial support and advice access, as well as health and wellbeing and intercultural and intergenerational activities.

Ng Homes has said that it will work in tandem with local organisations to ensure that the individuals benefiting from their initiatives receive the level of support they need to integrate into the local community.

Kate Still, Scotland’s chair for The National Lottery Community Fund, offered her congratulations to Ng Homes on securing the funding.

Still said: "The award is a testament to the incredible efforts of the Ng Homes staff and volunteers. I’m looking forward to seeing how the project improves the lives of local as people as they start to come together again to re-build and re-connect. National Lottery players can be proud to know that the money they raise is making such a difference."

If any readers happen to have any good quality furniture or furnishings in their possession that can be donated to this project for redistribution, Ng Homes can be contacted through Dom McInally or Ronnie Black via email at: dmcinally@nghomes.net or rblack@nghomes.net.
