M3 Floodtec breaks new ground in flood-prevention

M3 Floodtec, the Worcestershire-based flood prevention specialists, have broken new ground in the world of flood-prevention with doors that provide protection from flooding while simultaneously allowing easy navigation for wheelchair users.

For year, it has been a historic challenge to ensure that well protected buildings are able to provide good disability access. Either your doors are high threshold, which makes them difficult for wheelchair users to navigate, or they are low threshold which means they will let water seep underneath in the event of flooding.

But now, M3 Floodtec has produced the first Low Threshold Flood Door to achieve BS KitemarkTM Certification to BS 851188.

As they explain on their own website, ‘Research and Development has always been a cornerstone in the DNA of M3 Floodtec and bringing new products to market that solve long term concerns when flooding occurs is a core function of our business.

‘Over the past 2 years M3’s R&D unit have been developing a flood protection low threshold door in Composite and UPVC both inward and outward openings and have now achieved KitemarkTM Certification to BS851188-part1 2021, which is the first fully tested Low threshold flood door to achieve this standard in the world.

‘The new Defender range of Low Threshold flood doors with UK Patent Application No. 2210123.2 are now offered across the product portfolio as BS KitemarkTM Certified flood doors using any of the current composite and UPVC door slabs, at a cost that is not only affordable, but as a passive solution, once the door is closed the permanent flood protection is in place.’
