Johnson approval ratings up in midst of Covid-19 outbreak

New YouGov polling has shown that more people support the prime minister than ever before.

A poll running over March 23 and 24 has shown that 76 per cent of people strongly support the lockdown, with as many as 93 per cent supporting it in some capacity.

Broken down into voter demographics across the three main parties, 94 per cent of Liberal Democrat and Labour voters supported the lockdown, with the same figure at 96 per cent for Conservative voters.

The support, however, does not just stop at Mr Johnson's policies, however. Separate polling on his "favourability ratings" indicate what The Times has called an "unprecedented surge".

Last week, 43 per cent of those polled were "favourable" towards Mr Johnson, with 46 per cent unfavourable. The same poll was conducted again just hours before his lockdown announcement last night, with 55 per cent for and 35 per cent against.

This net favourability score of 20 points is the highest it has been since Johnson first became Prime Minister after the leadership election in July 2019, when it was -23.

His favourability among Labour voters has also more than doubled to 24 per cent, and among young voters -- those between the ages of 18 and 24 -- is up from 14 to 31 per cent.
