New prime minister Rishi Sunak has been assembling his cabinet, with Jeremy Hunt retained as chancellor and Suella Braverman returning as home secretary.
Hunt is expected to deliver a further statement on Monday around the government’s plans for tax and spending, having already announced the reversal of much of former prime minister Liz Truss’ mini-Budget.
The new PM has already warned that “difficult decisions” will lie ahead around the national finances, as he bid to “fix” the mistakes of his predecessor and tackle a “profound economic crisis.”
Braverman’s return comes just six days after she’d quit as home secretary under Truss, after sending an official document via a personal email which constituted a ministerial code breach.
Sunak’s leadership rival Penny Mordaunt keeps her position as Commons leader, while allies Michael Gove and Dominic Raab have been brought back into cabinet as levelling-up secretary and deputy PM & justice secretary, respectively.
Therese Coffey, an ally of Liz Truss, has remained in cabinet but is moved down from her deputy PM and health secretary roles to become environment secretary.
Others to remain in their previous positions include James Cleverly as foreign secretary and Kemi Badenoch as trade secretary. Ben Wallace also remains defence secretary, having held the role since Boris Johnson became PM in 2019.
Oliver Dowden has been promoted to Cabinet Office minister, while Steve Barclay has been moved up to the position of health secretary. Mel Stride, another of Sunak’s backers, becomes work and pensions secretary.
Grant Shapps also remains in the cabinet after briefly replacing Braverman as home secretary under Liz Truss. He takes on the role of business secretary after Jacob Rees-Mogg stepped down.

· Anne Marie-Trevelyan is replaced as transport secretary by Mark Harper
· Victoria Prentis in as attorney general, Michael Ellis departs
· John Glen becomes chief secretary to the Treasury, replacing Ed Argar
· Johnny Mercer becomes veterans minister, James Heappey leaves
· Tom Tugendhat named security minister
· Robert Jenrick becomes immigration minister
· Andrew Mitchell is the new development minister
