After the Climate Change Committee [CCC] recently sounded the alarm that the government is currently on course to miss its climate goals, one business leader has issued a rallying call to industry, urging firms to play their part in the drive toward net-zero.
Experts have warned that the world is currently on a crash course for a dangerous temperature hike of 2.7 Celsius by the year 2100, but have suggested that co-ordinated international action could keep the global temperature increase below 2 Celsius.
While the CCC highlighted that ministers have a role to play by implementing more aggressive policies to bring down carbon emissions, Richard Reid, managing director of Watford-based audiovisual and home automation system specialist, Aonyx, believes that business leaders cannot wait for politicians to act and industry must instead take the lead on slashing carbon output in the immediate term.
Reid said: “It has never been more apparent that we need to do all we can to reduce greenhouse gases and make sure we create a sustainable way of living not just for ourselves but for our children.
“For businesses it is incumbent upon us to lead the way in reducing our carbon footprint to create a sustainable tomorrow.”
As part of its own commitment to finding a more sustainable way of operating, Aonyx has made its business 95 per cent paper-free and has begun the process of replacing its fleet with electric vehicles.
Reid added: “We are really proud of our team’s commitment to reduce our carbon footprint, and we will continue to find ways of doing more over the coming years.
“If we all do our bit, then our legacy to our children will be a cleaner, greener future.”
