Earth Day is recognised each year on the 22nd April, started in 1970 to help diversify, activate and educate the worldwide climate movement. Earth day has been used to act as a landmark day for many environmental causes including, most recently signing the Paris Agreement and today the US has announced a bold new target. This year to mark the occasion there will be a full day of streamed events for people to watch from around the world.

The US is currently hosting its own climate summit, and Joe Biden has announced that the US will be looking to cut it’s emissions by 50-52% of 2005 levels. With Vice President, Kamala Harris saying ‘As a global community, it is imperative that we act quickly and together to confront this crisis.

"This will require innovation and collaboration around the world."

The UK will be hosting the latest UN climate summit in Glasgow in November, it will be the first time that countries have come together officially since signing the Paris agreement. It is seen to be an important step as signatories come forward to re-pledge their commitment to reducing carbon emissions and protecting the world from climate change.

Many organisations across the UK and the world, have declared a climate emergency and committed to lowering their impact. Earth Day are using the stream to promote the campaign #RestoreOurEarth.

In 2021, The Leaders Council have brought together member organisations to look at their impact on the climate. Hosting webinars and promoting campaigns to back green mortgages, enhanced Corporate Social Responsibility platforms and sustainable buying practices.
