Coronavirus update: US records highest daily death toll yet

Boris Johnson has spent a second night in intensive care, but Downing Street have stated that his condition is "stable" and health minister Edward Argar has described him as "comfortable" and "in good spirits".

It was also suggested that the planned review on lifting the lockdown on the coming Monday would not go ahead as planned.

Mr Argar said there was "[not yet the scientific evidence] to allow us to make a decision" and that the UK would "have to be over [the] peak" before lifting any measures.

In other news, supermarket Tesco has said that most customers will need to shop in-store after it has struggled to meet the demand for online deliveries.

In Europe, the French death toll has passed 10,000. There have now been more than 80,000 deaths worldwide.

And the US has recorded the single highest number of Covid-19 deaths in one day, with more than 1,800 dying yesterday.

The next Leaders Council will follow later this evening.
