Coronavirus update: UK will hold 11am silence for key workers

There will be a minute's silence at 11am today to commemorate those key workers who have died with Covid-19.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson returned to work yesterday, and will be joining the silence.

Tesco boss Dave Lewis has said that the weekly shop is "back in fashion" in an interview with the BBC, revealing that the supermarket had seen the number of transactions lower while the size of the average shop has increased.

In Europe, German citizens have begun wearing compulsory facemasks outside as the lockdown eases, and Italian PM Giuseppe Conte has announced plans to relax lockdown measures from May 4.

In Africa, Nigeria will be lifting measures in major cities including capital Lagos on the same date.

And finally, as states across the US continue to return to some semblance of normality, President Donald Trump has said he "can't imagine why" hotline calls in America regarding disinfectant have increased.
