Since reopening in mid-August following the Covid-19 lockdown, one hospitality business, Portsmouth’s Becketts Southsea, has enjoyed a bumper summer of bookings fuelled by UK staycations and been buoyed further by 15 consecutive five-star reviews on Tripadvisor. However, the success has not stopped since, with the Becketts Southsea hotel business having now been recognised with a 2020 Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice award.
The accolade recognises those that are in the top ten per cent of hotels worldwide according to real travellers on Tripadvisor, and is based on guest reviews and ratings of rooms, quality of service and meals.
Becketts Southsea's restaurant has also made huge strides in the Tripadvisor landscape, climbing the comparison and review site’s rankings to sit at its highest point of ninth in the list of Best European Restaurants in the city of Portsmouth and 21st out of 425 in Tripadvisor’s full reckoning of the city’s best restaurants overall.
The catalyst for the business’ rave reviews and growing reputation was the arrival of its incumbent head chef Jack Sancherey Evans and general manager Terence Carvalho, who joined the business in August 2019 and October 2019, respectively.
With the experience of the dedicated and results driven Carvalho - who in the past has worked for names such as Ibis Hotels and the King’s Theatre in Portsmouth - and the culinary expertise of Sancherey Evans, Becketts Southsea is quickly becoming one of the household names on the south coast. Having been able to weather even the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the business looks well placed to climb to even greater heights.
Carvalho commented: “This award is recognition for the dedication and hard work of all of the Becketts Southsea team. As far as reviews are going, the business is making history and we are confident that Becketts can look forward to a prosperous future.”
