Antiques on High to open fourth premises in Taunton next month

Antiques on High is set to open its latest venue in the Somerset town of Taunton on Friday, November 4.

Owner and managing director Vincent Page (pictured) has taken on the Taunton Antiques Market setting on Taunton’s Silver Street, and has already been inundated with enquiries from new dealers.

Page told the Somerset County Gazette: “We've already had a raft of interest from new dealers wanting space and cabinets in the popular venue.

“The more traditional style of the shopfront has created a perfect situation with many of the Monday dealers keen to take a cabinet in the store, which will be open more than the one day a week that the centre has been known for.”

After the initial opening on November 4, the new setting will operate from between the hours of 10:00 and 16:00 every Saturday, Sunday, and Monday for its first month of trading.

Shortly thereafter, Page expects the venue to be open to customers and traders seven days a week, with the traditional Monday Market remaining in place.

The sizeable challenge of getting a new Antiques on High setting up and running is one with which Page and business partner Lesley White are all too familiar.

The Taunton venue will be the fourth branch of Antiques on High to be opened, following the opening of its first branch on Oxford High Street in 2017, its second in Sidmouth, Devon the following year, and its most recent in Bowness, Windermere, which launched in May 2021.

Page said: “Both Lesley and I have been flat out since picking up the keys with all the usual tasks involved and with the new phone and broadband line already in, new sign going up this week, various LED lights already replacing the older tubes and the carpet going down on Tuesday on one section of the store, the rest of the premises will certainly keep us occupied.

"However, we do have plenty of green paint.”

David Harper, renowned antiques specialist who regularly appears on programmes such as Antiques Road Trip, Bargain Hunt and Cash in the Attic, is a friend of the Antiques on High brand and has confirmed that he will be visiting the new Taunton venue once open.

Harper disclosed to the Somerset County Gazette that he plans to shoot several promotional videos at the new setting.
