Sue Brand is Managing Director of RDB Star Rating, an independent 'quality' assessment company, which uses their specifically designed RDB Star Rating system to assess the level of care and services delivered in a residential care establishment and drive up standards.

Career Overview

With a distinguished career spanning over four decades, Sue Brand stands at the helm of RDB Star Rating Limited, a pioneering 'quality' assessment company at the forefront of transforming the care sector. A qualified professional trained at the Middlesex Hospital in London, Sue's journey began in the 1970s with the establishment of the Pembroke Group, her own chain of care homes. Recognised for her unwavering commitment to 'quality care,' Sue has been a trailblazer, introducing ground-breaking training videos and books for the care sector in 1987.

During the 1990s, Sue emerged as a key figure in the care sector, chairing both the East Sussex National Care Association and Brighton and Hove National Care Homes Association. In response to the challenges of that time, she founded the RDB Star Rating System, a dynamic and responsive tool aimed at supporting, identifying, promoting, and rewarding quality care providers.

Sue's advocacy for dignified and respectful treatment of residents has been a driving force throughout her career. Her passion, focus, and tenacity are evident in her roles as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, founder member of the National Skills Academy, and representation of Care England on the UKAS Policy Advisory Council. She serves on the drafting panel of the British Standards Institute for Social Care, is a member of the Royal Society of Medicine, and holds positions on various prestigious boards and councils.

Currently Managing Director of RDB Star Rating Limited, Sue Brand continues to champion positive approaches to ageing, ensuring the RDB system remains a comprehensive and reliable assessment tool focused on the residents' needs. As a respected social care champion, Sue leverages her extensive experience, intellectual acumen, and interpersonal skills to surpass objectives and drive up the quality of care in the UK.
