Simon Lebus is the interim Chief Regulator of Ofqual.

He is well established in the fields of education technology and curriculum delivery, having previously held the role of Chief Executive of Cambridge Assessment between 2002 and 2018. As well as spending a long spell at the helm of Cambridge Assessment, Simon has also worked with exam board OCR, having been appointed chairman in 2004.

Simon Lebus is the interim Chief Regulator of Ofqual, having held the position since January 1, 2021. He is well established in the fields of education technology and curriculum delivery, having previously held the role of Chief Executive of Cambridge Assessment between 2002 and 2018.

Career Overview

As well as spending a long spell at the helm of Cambridge Assessment, Simon has also worked with exam board OCR, having been appointed chairman in 2004.

Prior to his years at Cambridge Assessment and taking on his Ofqual position, Simon spent fourteen years in industry, occupying a variety of senior management roles at firms including Kitchen Range Foods, OSI Industries and McKey Food Service.

Simon had entered industry from the City of London, where he spent several years involved in corporate finance advisory and capital markets work with Morgan Grenfell & Co and First Chicago Ltd.

Within Cambridge Assessment, Simon was a Bye-Fellow of Emmanuel College and has also served on the Board of the University Education Faculty, as a member of the Management Committee of the Cambridge University Centre for Applied Research in Education Technologies and as Executive Chair of the Cambridge Trusts.

In June 2021, Simon appeared on a Leaders Council of Great Britain & Northern Ireland podcast, discussing the importance of leadership and the impact it has had on his career to date.

Education

Simon is an alumnus of St John’s College, Oxford, where he graduated with a first-class honours degree in Modern History before going on to St Antony’s College, also at the University of Oxford, where he studied for three years as a postgraduate research student.
