Nick Laister is a chartered town planner, operational director with RPS Group plc and owner of family farm attraction Fairytale Farm.

Career Overview

Nick Laister is a chartered town planner and operational director of RPS Group plc. He is involved in development projects across the UK and Ireland, a large proportion being for UK-based blue-chip property developers and housebuilders. Laister is also the leading planning consultant in the UK to owners and operators of visitor attractions and holiday parks.

Laister has also owns Fairytale Farm in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, an attraction that was opened by then prime minister David Cameron on June 21, 2013. It was the first family farm attraction where everything was designed around the needs of children with sensory, learning and physical disabilities. Laister has many years under his belt from working with amusement park operator The Dreamland Trust and has previously worked as a consultant.

Education and consultancy career

Graduating Heriot-Watt University and London South Bank University with degrees in Architecture and Town Planning Studies, respectively, Laister’s first role took him into the realm of consultancy with Stirling Maynard Transportation, with whom he spent four years.

Moving into town planning

In 1996, Laister then moved firmly into the town planning field, taking up his position with RPS Group. In his role, he handles planning applications and technical supporting documents as well as development plan representations, negotiations with local planning authorities on all planning matters, and planning appeals. Laister continues to hold this role to date.

The Dreamland Trust and Fairytale Farm

In 2007, Laister took a step into the world of attractions and amusements by becoming chairman of The Dreamland Trust, the organisation behind the world's first amusement park of thrilling historic rides at Dreamland, in Margate, Kent. He was elevated to director of the Trust in 2016 and then stepped away from the organisation in March 2020.

In 2008, Laister took on the land where Fairytale Farm is now located, and the attraction opened in June 2013, with then prime minister David Cameron attending to open the new park. It was the first family farm attraction where everything was designed around the needs of children with sensory, learning and physical disabilities and Laister remains owner today.
