Claire Dimpfl is the owner and head of Tadpoles Nursery School in Chelsea, west London. Dimpfl founded Tadpoles Nursery School back in 1976, after having spent three years as a teacher.

Today, Tadpoles Nursery welcomes teams from Estonia, China, Singapore and Sweden among other countries to learn about best practice in Early Years. All Dimpfl’s experience in early years’ education has helped create a unique learning provision for children aged between two years and five years.

Career Overview

Dimpfl founded Tadpoles Nursery School back in 1976, after having spent three years as a teacher. Then operating under the name of Lamont Road Nursery School, before being renamed Ifield Road Nursery in 1981. The nursery was given its current name of Tadpoles Nursery School in 1993.

Today, Tadpoles Nursery welcomes teams from Estonia, China, Singapore and Sweden among other countries to learn about best practice in Early Years.

All Dimpfl’s experience in early years’ education has helped create a unique learning provision for children aged between two years and five years, using a play-based approach to encourage children to grow and learn. Dimpfl has also developed, within Tadpoles, an award-winning organic garden for the children, and champions a focus on all aspects of ecology within the children's education.

Education

On completing her A Levels, Dimpfl decided to become a Montessori practitioner and acquired her Montessori Diploma in 1971. In 2013, she completed a Certificate in Therapeutic Play, awarded by the Institute of Arts & therapy in London.

Other work

Dimpfl is well-versed in working with charitable organisations, having raised funds for the London Suzuki Group for 17 years and spent 18 years as chair of the Earls Court Homeless Families charity. 

Between 1987 and 2010, Dimpfl sat as a governor at St Barnabas & St Philip’s CE Primary School on Earls Court Road in London. 

Dimpfl has also ensured that Tadpoles Nursery has played a role in helping the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire by supplying laundry facilities to those in B&Bs and Hotels to enable them to have greater autonomy. 

Diversity and Equality within the industry

Dimpfl and the nursery have also featured on Channel 4 series, Daddy Day Care, which aims to encourage more men to enter Early Years teaching, which is a predominantly female industry. Dimpfl is also part of the London pilot scheme for the 'Think Equal Programme', devised by Leslie Udwin.
