The Maverick Group undergoes management shakeup

The Maverick Group, the leading independent agency group, has announced the appointment of Chris Tedman, previously Chief Operating Officer, as the company’s new Managing Director.

The move sees current MD and co-founder, Carron Edmonds [pictured, centre], move into a newly created Chairperson role. As Chairperson, she will now be tasked with overseeing the overall growth of the Group.

Chris [pictured, left], a veteran of the agency for over a decade, has been instrumental in supporting the development of the business as it has grown and cultivated relationships with anchor clients including global logistics leader DHL, CocaCola, Adecco, Manchester United and Pendragon.

Under Chris' operational leadership, The Maverick Group saw remarkable year on year revenue growth even amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, bucking the industry trend.

Owen Rees [pictured, right], co-founder and Chief Executive Officer said: “While we love to attract first-rate talent to the business, like our hire of Executive Creative Director, Jamie Bell, we also like to develop our internal talent pool. Chris is a great example of this ‒ he has been a key figure in our success story so far, is a respected leader in the agency Group and is a natural successor to Carron, as she broadens her remit to help us step up to the next level as a group business.”

Carron, who co-founded The Maverick Group in 2002 and has guided the business in the role of Managing Director for almost 20 years, moves into the Chairperson role with the specific focus of nurturing the various agencies under The Maverick Group banner. The Group includes nine agency divisions, ranging from Electric ‒ an advertising and customer engagement agency ‒ to Maverick Hive, a digital innovation and transformation collective.

Carron notes: “We’ve been blessed to have bolstered our client roster for the Group over the years, winning awards and turning out creative work that we’re extraordinarily proud of. Now it is the right time to further support some of our specialist agencies. We’ve seen major opportunities in areas like behavioural insights, strategy and cultural transformation, where our Pulse and Engage propositions are well-placed, and I can now focus on all of the Group businesses alongside Owen.”

Chris takes over a thriving agency Group, although he still sees scope for the business to progress.

Chris said: “We’ve got a good platform in a solid client line-up, a phenomenal group of people and an increasing output of award-winning work. But it's about taking the good and making it great. I feel proud to have been entrusted with this new role and I’m focused on creating even more work that we’re proud of, and developing an even better, more inclusive team that can go from strength to strength.”
