Strongmind rolls out Mental Health for Managers training online

The run-up to the Christmas period can often place extra amounts of stress upon the shoulders of business leaders, with directors and managers striving to meet the wishes and expectations of their staff teams around leave and various other aspects. Now, in addition to its face-to-face course offering, Strongmind Resiliency Training has made its popular Mental Health for Managers course available through e-learning.

A specialist provider of training in mental health awareness, resilience and trauma management, Strongmind’s in-person and virtual training courses have helped hundreds of individuals from various organisations.

First rolled out back on October 10 this year to coincide with World Mental Health Day, the online version of the Mental Health for Managers course makes key training all the more accessible to those leaders within any organisation who may lack the confidence to manage and support their colleagues in the workplace who are facing mental health challenges.

Strongmind director, Richard Dorney, commented: “Because they [business leaders] have so many demands on their time, this can make day long face-to-face courses a problem. But a good understanding of mental health contributes to the building of mentally healthy workplaces - a key step to reducing sickness absence.

“This new format can also be used for staff still working from home. It is also an excellent remote induction for a new or promoted manager.”

The course aims to provide managers with the knowledge and confidence to understand common mental health problems. Throughout the learning process, Strongmind’s award-winning trainers will be on hand to show learners how to support and signpost a person suffering from poor mental health. Perhaps most importantly, learners will also be educated in how to manage their own stress.

The Mental Health for Managers e-learning course covers the following points:

What is mental health?

• Reducing stigma and building healthy workplaces

• Prevalence, risk and protection

• Practical measures to help a person with poor mental health

• The Equality Act and mental health

• Active listening with practical exercises in interviewing people who may be struggling

• Identifying common mental health problems – anxiety and depression

• Substance misuse and mental health

• Positive coping
