Despite having entered the New Year of 2022, it is never too late to reflect upon the trials and tribulations of the previous year. During our periods of reflection, we often consider how important it is to think on our setbacks and what we learn from them, but we can also take the time to enjoy our successes and seek to build on those foundations to ensure further progress in future.
At Aldercar High School, a local authority school in Langley Mill, Nottingham, the latter months of 2021 brought with it a handful of major milestones in its fundraising activities. Across several of its events -which were held to accumulate monies for charities Children in Need and PASIC, alongside an externally organised fundraiser to raise money for defibrillator machines at the school - Aldercar High managed to raise a staggering amount of over £3,350 in cash.
Within that number, £630.35 was raised for Children in Need through a non-uniform day and cake sale, while over £1,300 was raised for children’s cancer charity PASIC through a charity music event and a raffle and merchandise sale.
Andy Whitt, the charity music event organiser, paid tribute to two Aldercar High pupils who had assisted with running the raffle and helped sell wristbands and pin badges to attendees.
Whitt said: “The two girls [who helped] were absolutely fantastic and a credit to the school. They worked tirelessly throughout the event, dealing with members of the general public in a polite and confident manner. I would ask the school to please praise them for the work they did.”
In December, the school’s longstanding ambition of purchasing two defibrillators for school use and that of the community was fulfilled. This came after funds were raised through various donations and a charity event organised by a local business.
The two live-saving pieces of apparatus now take pride of place externally on the wall of the school Sports Hall and the inside the main reception, respectively.
Aldercar High School headteacher, Clare Hatto, commented: “We want to extend a huge thanks to everyone who who donated to this cause, and particularly to the father of our pupil, Daisy, in Year 8 and Tracy and Kate, who run the wonderful Up-Town Tanning salon in Heanor.
“Tracy and Kate created a fantastic charity night featuring a tombola with prizes which were generously donated by local businesses. This event raised a massive £1,420! Our new defibrillators are registered with the East Midlands Ambulance Service and are ready for service in case of emergencies.
“Thanks again to everyone who supported us to achieve this for both our school and the community.”
