Keeping up-to-date: Driver Require releases latest edition of The Extra Mile

Multi-award-winning specialist driver recruitment agency, Driver Require, has released the latest edition of its online magazine, The Extra Mile, which contains news and views from the world of HGV and goes out to all its drivers.

Inside the latest issue of The Extra Mile is a feature on Driver Require’s choice for May’s Driver of the Month. Their latest pick is Karlis Medvedvs, a HGV2 driver working for Booker in Erith who helps out other clients when required.

Karlis is singled out for praise for his longevity but also his willingness to go the extra mile, work at short notice and cover weekend driving shifts.

Inside the latest issue is also a handy reminder to drivers about the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday, which has seen the May Bank Holiday weekend shifted to Thursday June 2 with an additional Bank Holiday on Friday June 3 to make for a four-day weekend. The move comes in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the first time any British monarch has reached the historic milestone.

Following the Covid-19 pandemic, the British public has perhaps been more aware than ever before of mental health and the stigma around talking about it is beginning to subside. To this end, the latest edition of The Extra Mile also contains 20 helpful tips for drivers to safeguard their mental wellbeing.

The tips include the following:

1. Learn new skills - taking up a new hobby can be fun and exciting

2. Be physically active - attending the gym, going for a walk or finding a new sporting hobby can help

3. Get out into nature

4. Practise mindfulness [being present in the moment]

5. Prioritise sleep

6. Eating a balanced diet to support your body

7. Set yourself goals

8. Connect with others, face-to-face or virtually

9. Make time for yourself - do things you enjoy

10. Reach out when you are lonely

11. Challenge negative thoughts

12. Meditate - it is great for your mind

13. Read a new book or revisit an old favourite

14. Learn new breathing techniques

15. Do a digital detox - go screen free for the evening or even a few hours

16. Listen to your favourite music

17. Stay hydrated, drink enough water

18. Take a break - listen to your body

19. Talk about your feelings - a problem shared is a problem halved

20. Lastly, but most importantly - be kind to yourself!

Later on in the magazine is an interview with marketing communications assistant, Isabel Wright, an employee relatively new to Driver Require having joined the company seven months ago. Isabel lifts the lid on the proudest moment of her career thus far, which came when she produced marketing content for the beauty industry, as well as some of her favourite pastimes outside of the workplace.
