Johnson Controls has been named among the 100 Best Corporate Citizens for 2021.

It is the 16th consecutive year that Johnson Controls, the global leader for smart, healthy and sustainable buildings, has been included on the list. Only 19 other firms have matched their achievement of being included each year since 2009.

The criteria for the 100 Best Corporate Citizen for 2021 covers 146 ESG factors across eight pillars, including Climate Change; Employees; Environment; ESG Performance; Financial; Governance; Human Rights; Stakeholders and Society.

Johnson Controls chairman and CEO, George Oliver, commented: “We are honoured to be recognised as a 100 Best Corporate Citizen 2021 for the milestones we achieve as a team, and the path we laid out for bold climate and social action to help push the envelope forward in demonstrating how we can contribute to a better planet.

“The next decade is crucial in our shift to a sustainable economy and with our global team of 100,000 employees we are firmly committed to building a world that`s safe, comfortable and sustainable.”

Dave Armon, CEO of 3BL Media - the company which decides the 100 Best Corporate Citizens ranking - added: “The next decade is pivotal if we are to achieve global climate and societal goals and rebuild an inclusive and resilient economy. Achieving these transformational outcomes depends on corporate leadership and transparency on ESG topics.”

Under its environmental and sustainability commitments, Johnson Controls has pledged to achieve net zero carbon by 2040, and announced science-based targets for 2030. The firm also aims to reduce operational emissions by 55 per cent and cut customers’ emissions by 16 percent in absolute terms before 2030.

These ambitious green targets are in line with the most ambitious mandate of the Paris Agreement: keeping global warming to no more than 1.5°C.

Inclusion among the 100 Best Corporate Citizens list is the latest string to be attached to Johnson Controls’ corporate bow as pioneers in sustainability. The firm is ranked among the top 12 per cent of climate leadership companies globally by CDP and was recently included in the inaugural Financial Times Climate Leaders in Europe List and the World’s Most Ethical Companies® Honoree List.

Johnson Controls is also listed among Corporate Knights’ global 100 most Sustainable Companies.
