The death toll in the UK has passed Italy's, previously the worst-affected country in Europe.

There are now almost four million confirmed cases in the whole world, and close to 200,000 in the UK alone.

Online retailer Ocado has reported seeing "more normal" shopping habits in UK consumers, saying that the number of items purchased by individual shoppers has passed a peak but "remains high".

European leaders have hinted at the possibility of easing travel lockdown restrictions for "summer holidays", with Italian PM Giuseppe Conti the latest to entertain the idea.

And it has been announced that President Donald Trump will look to disband the White House virus task force as early as the end of May.

In New Zealand, it has been announced that there has been a major lockdown "heist", with more than 100 cars stolen over the weekend just gone.

And Chinese newspaper The Global Times has attacked US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for the second day running, describing his allegations that the novel coronavirus was created in a lab by the Chinese state as "absurd" and "twisted".

The next Leaders Council update will follow tomorrow.
