Continued Care staff raise thousands for local children’s hospice

Staff at Harrogate-based home care provider Continued Care have raised almost £5,000 which will go to a children’s hospice near Wetherby.

Continued Care staff raises funds for local organisations every year, with a different charity partner selected in each.

The Continued Care team are this year supporting hospice Martin House by carrying out a series of fundraising activities.

Martin House was selected as Continued Care’s charity partner during 2021, following the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Continued Care retained the hospice as its partner this year after surpassing an initial fundraising target of £800.

Based in Boston Spa, Martin House Children’s Hospice offers support, rest and practical help to families who are caring for a child or young person with a short life expectancy.

Within Continued Care’s growing list of fundraising activities for the hospice is sponsored hikes up Mount Snowdon and Ben Nevis, which combined have raised £3,110, and a Christmas raffle featuring prizes donated by local businesses helped raise £569.

One carer based at Continued Care’s Ripon site raised £500 by taking part in a 6km ‘Total Warrior’ event, and a charity fishing match organised by one of Continued Care’s regional managers helped put a further £600 into the hospice’s coffers.

Samantha Harrison, Continued Care director, commented: “As a company, we aim to support charities and organisations that serve the communities in which our staff live and work.

“Martin House is an incredibly special place and we are delighted to have raised nearly £5,000 so far towards their vital work with families across Yorkshire.”

Chris Verney, regional fundraiser for Martin House, said: “We are so grateful for Continued Care’s ongoing support for Martin House.

“This money will help us to carry on providing specialist care to seriously ill babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions across the region.”

Wellbeing and engagement lead Iona Novak from Continued Care, who co-ordinates the company’s fundraising initiatives. said: “Our total so far is £4,891 and we still have more activities planned this year, including the Dragon Boat Race at Roundhay Park in July.

“Thank you to everyone who has taken part in our activities for this very special cause and to all the local people and businesses that have supported and sponsored us.”
