Career Overview

Lee is a graduate of the University of Birmingham and Cass Business School and a dual-qualified nurse with a criminology qualification and MBA. She is a passionate advocate of learning disability and mental health nursing, and has been described by other in the care sector as having the drive of an entrepreneur coupled with the passion of a nurse.

Lee gained her MBA in 1997 and went on to become a Director of Nursing at Jaffray Care before taking on the role of Chief Executive in 2015.

In her role as CEO of Jaffray Care, Lee leads a charitable and specialist provider of care and support for adults that suffer from a range of complex health conditions, including physical disability, sensory impairment and mental health needs. Others in their care my require palliative and end of life care.

For over 30 years, Lee has dedicated her entire career toward improving the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities, mental health and complex health care needs. Her exploits have taken her from a frontline nursing post working with those with complex health needs within the NHS to working in the prison system and now the not-for-profit sector.

Lee was one of the pioneers of developing services that formed part of implementing a new philosophy of care: that which operated under the credo that people living with learning disabilities have a right to live in ordinary homes in the community and share the benefits, facilities and privileges of society. Lee worked in the field of complex healthcare for eight years before moving on to qualify as a Mental Health Nurse in 2001, another major qualification to sit alongside her  other nursing degree.

Lee attributes her decision to train in mental health to her desire to gain a better understanding of and to incorporate a person-centred and holistic approach to care. She felt strongly that some people with people with learning disability were not having their mental health needs addressed, or were being overlooked because of their disability. On her mission to set this right, she has accumulated vast experience in setting up and developing new services, particularly for those whose behaviour may be challenging, and those who suffer from mental health and learning disabilities.

As a clinician, Lee has also taken an active part in research and education in the field of mental health and developmental disabilities both in the UK and America.

Lee is a member of the Institute of Directors Policy Voice panel and Women as Leaders, always ensuring that key business issues affecting vulnerable people with are heard in that forum. She has recently been asked to join the Nursing Times advisory panel and is an active member of the Learning Disability Committee for Care England. She is a member of BILD, the RCN and the British Society of Criminology. Alumni of Cass Business School.

Education

Lee is a graduate of the University of Birmingham and Cass Business School. She is dual-qualified nurse, holding a criminology qualification and MBA.

Lee also attended  the Institute of Criminal Justice at Portsmouth University where she studied Criminology and later Criminal Psychology. She used this opportunity to commence an academic research study into hate crime against people with learning disabilities, which at the time was a vastly under-researched area of study.
