Karen West-Whylie is chief executive of Barking Enterprise Centre, a community interest company which provides business hubs for organisations in and around London.
Career Overview
West-Whylie was appointed chief executive of Barking Enterprise Centres CIC in 2016, following her work as Group Manager for Learning Disabilities with the London Borough Council for Barking and Dagenham, where she spent eight-and-a-half years.
A hub that is passionate about enterprise, Barking Enterprise Centres strives to support start-up businesses and SMEs across London and out into Essex.
West-Whylie’s resume includes skills not just in the public sector, but also in management, strategic planning, stakeholder management and project planning. She was named Business Person of the Year at the Archant Thames Gateway Business Awards in 2017.
In March 2020, West-Whylie appeared on a Leaders Council of Great Britain and Northern Ireland podcast, discussing the importance of leadership and the role it has played in her career to date.
Education
West-Whylie has also been educated at the Chartered Management Institute, completing a Level 7 qualification in Coaching and Mentoring in 2018.
