Red Hall Primary School

Julie Davidson is the headteacher at Red Hall Primary School, a local authority maintained primary school in Darlington, Country Durham.

Career Overview

Since taking over as head at Red Hall in September 2013, Julie’s leadership and forward-thinking has seen the school buck the trend in terms of pupil outcomes locally and nationally, despite 83 per cent of the school community originating from areas among the top five per cent of the most deprived in England. Indeed, in the school’s most recent Ofsted inspection in April 2019, it was judged a “good” school with two outstanding areas.

Having made the school a community hub already during her headship, Julie ensured that this remained consistent during the Covid-19 public health crisis. The school remained open for children of key workers and vulnerable children, while staff prepared weekly breakfast hampers for the families of the school community, and provided and delivered meals and shopping essentials, three times weekly, to the elderly and vulnerable who were isolating. Julie also took the school into partnership with The Bread and Butter Thing charity, to support local families with food distribution.
