Graeme Jones is the Managing Director of C-Probe Systems, a provider of network management systems for the monitoring and protection of corrosion, assessment of structural integrity and environmental monitoring of reinforced concrete and masonry structure

Graeme Jones is the CEO of C-Probe Group Ltd, a construction technology provider which manufactures both low-carbon alternative cements and internet-enabled corrosion management systems.

C-Probe Systems Limited, C-Probe North America Limited and Structural Healthcare Limited are the Group's trading companies, operating mainly in the UK and US.

Career Overview

Graeme Jones founded C-Probe Technologies Limited in 1994, and in 2003 he took on the role of Managing Director for its phoenix company, C-Probe Systems Limited, following the exit of venture capital investors. He also serves as Managing Director of Structural Healthcare Limited, another business that he founded in 2003. Structural Healthcare Limited is a specialist corrosion consultancy, providing condition survey and whole life management design services. These companies were included in the Group structure in 2017 before new private equity investment by Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund (NPIF) was concluded in February 2018.

C-Probe has grown significantly from its establishment in 1994, with their products and technology developing into AACM solutions for effective and sustainable repair, protection and monitoring of structures under the market brand of LoCem®. C-Probe had an established track record with over 150 installations of corrosion protection and management systems and internet management contracts on AiMS, giving public and private sector clients real-time insight and control over their assets.

A busy 10 years has seen the success of the R&D of LoCem products and their integration with monitoring and management systems with the production facility in St Helens formed in 2016. This is currently undergoing a digital transformation with the support of grants from Liverpool City Region and Made Smarter, C-Probe’s funds and The Manufacturing Technology Centre (The MTC). Its technology roadmap continues to look at avenues to support the decarbonisation of the construction sector and export opportunities.

In March 2020, C-Probe was featured in the Parliamentary Review, followed in June 2020 by Graeme Jones appearing on a Leaders Council of Great Britain and Northern Ireland podcast, discussing the importance of leadership and the role it has played in his career to date.

Academic Background

Graeme has over 30 years of experience in the construction sector following his academic studies at University of Portsmouth (BSc Hons in Applied Chemistry) and UMIST Corrosion Centre (MSc in Corrosion Science and Engineering). He is a Fellow of the Institute of Corrosion (UK), Level 4 BS EN ISO 15257 cathodic protection design specialist and published over 20 papers in his field.

He was on the BSI PAS8820 steering committee contributing to the drafting and eventual publication by BSI of a Specification for the use of AACMs in concrete structures. Graeme is also past Director at the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI in the USA) and past Chair of E510 Corrosion committee responsible for the publication of industry guidelines for the corrosion protection of structures.

C-Probe has recently been granted its first patent in 2020 in the UK, EC, USA and Canada for the use of its AACM as an anode material for the lining of new and reconstructed reinforced concrete structures.

Launching LoCem

The LoCem product range was launched after C-Probe commissioned a PhD at Sheffield Hallam University (between 2010 and 2013) and an Enhanced Mentoring Internship (2015-16) that characterised LoCem® in accordance with the parallel development of BSI PAS8820:2016. These low carbon alkali-activated cementitious materials (AACMs) come with with additional monitoring and control systems to protect reinforced concrete and masonry structures for their whole life by preserving embodied carbon in the built environment.

LoCem was initially installed at a trial site at Leeds Civic Hall and its first full commercial contract awarded at The Commerce Bank (Kansas City) as our LoCem +point® anode mortar and has been on commercial sale as a range of repair and cathodic protection products for over 5 years.

This successful trial kickstarted a range of restoration projects on a global scale, with C-Probe having protected over 100 structures, including marine infrastructure, bridges and historic buildings.

C-Probe are also developing more technology suited to the New-Build sector, helping to protect and monitor structures from the beginning of their construction in order to provide sustainable whole life performance.

Prestige and Recognition

The past seven years have seen C-Probe receive multiple industry awards for its innovations both in the UK and US, from notable sources such as Mott MacDonald, ICRI, Fiatech CETI and Leeds Sustainability Institute (RISE).
