Emma Martin is the owner and managing director  of Crop Advisors, a farmer’s buying group that specialises in group purchasing of arable inputs such as seed, fertiliser, and sprays, for farms that use an independent agronomist.

Career Overview

Emma 's career began at Berks Bucks & Oxon Farmers in 1989 working in the seed and agrochemical departments. After gaining BASIS in 1992, she moved to Hampshire Arable Systems as an independent agronomist in 1993. During this time she also took on the role of Arable Business Manager running the buying for the newly formed Crop Advisors group. Emma and now fellow director Howard Nason bought the company from the previous owner in 2009.

Today, Crop Advisors Independent Alliance offers independent agronomy and group purchasing for over 600 farmer members, farming in excess of 120,000 hectares.

By working closely with alliance agronomists and focusing group purchasing on seeds, fertiliser, agrochemical and precision farming services, Crop Advisors is able to source the best products at the most competitive prices. Its aim is to ensure that farmers’ businesses become more profitable. Day to day, Emma oversees a small and compact team of people who work together to achieve these aims.

In September 2020, Emma appeared on a Leaders Council of Great Britain & Northern Ireland podcast, discussing the importance of leadership and the impact it has had on her career to date.
