Before Ian founded Ian G Gascoigne Builders in 1992, his journey in the construction industry began in 1985 after he had finished a bricklaying apprenticeship. From there, he took to working on large building sites as a subcontract bricklayer. As local people began asking him to do more work for them, he built a reputation through word of mouth which provided him with the platform to start a business of his own.

As the jobs became more complex, Ian took on more people to help, primarily tradesmen with skills outside of brickwork. The business at one stage grew to nine employees, before Ian scaled back to a workforce of four in 1995, which remains the case today. 

Ian G Gascoigne Builders was incorporated as a limited company in 2003 and was buoyed by a strong network of subcontractors and suppliers. Most of Ian’s team of four within the business and those who work with the company from outside have in some way been trained by Ian G Gascoigne Builders, either through a recognised apprenticeship or on-site training.
